The Aeropress

The Aeropress is the most versatile brewing method available.

Nomadic and virtually indestructible , it's the perfect companion for weekend getaways or trips.

Versatile and easy to use . The possibilities are limitless, it adapts to all tastes.

The AeroPress was developed in the United States in 2005 by Adan Adler. It quickly became an essential tool in the world of coffee. The world championships for this discipline have been held annually since 2008.

This method combines both immersion and filtration . The Aeropress is therefore halfway between a French press and a V60, combining aromatic clarity and mouthfeel.

Celsius offers you a simple and easy recipe here. However, you'll need to be curious: experiment, taste, and vary the different parameters to extract the coffee you like and that suits your mood.

Preparing an Aeropress

Step 1:Position the filter in the filter holder.

Step 2Heat the water

Step 3:Grind the coffee to a medium to fine grind, like table salt. Pour the ground coffee into the brewing chamber.

Step 4:Place the carafe/cup on the scale and tare it.

Step 5:Start the timer and pour the 150g of water (to level 2-3 of the Aeropress if you don't have scales) quickly enough to completely submerge the ground coffee.

Step 6: Wait 30 seconds.

Step 7: Stir using a stirrer in a north/south motion for about ten seconds to ensure the coffee bed is homogeneous.

Step 8:Insert the plunger without pressing, so that the coffee continues to infuse gently in the extraction chamber, and wait up to 1 minute 30 seconds.

Step 9: Gently press the piston all the way down, to reach a total time of 2min-2min30.

Tips

Have fun adjusting the different settings (one at a time)

  • water/coffee ratio
  • water temperature
  • infusion time
  • hustle
  • grind size

~
Wait 1 to 2 minutes for the coffee to cool. The aromas will
will manifest much better when the drink loses a few degrees
(Celsius).

Adjust the settings if the coffee is not to your liking:

Is the coffee too bitter or too strong?

1. Increase the grind size

2. Infuse for a shorter time

3. Lower the water temperature

4. Press the piston more slowly (to avoid astringency)

5. Change the water/coffee ratio, by decreasing the amount of coffee or increasing the amount of water.

Is the coffee too acidic and/or too weak?

1. Reduce the grind size

2. Increase the steeping time

3. Increase the water temperature

3. Stir more to create more turbulence.

4. Change the water/coffee ratio, by increasing the amount of coffee or decreasing the amount of water.
